Going digital: what to expect in your first week

A practical guide for teams switching from paper logs or legacy software to GIMLabs.

Blog · 28 March 2026

Switching to a new system is always a bit daunting. Whether you’re coming from paper logs, Excel, gINT, or HoleBASE, here’s what the first week actually looks like with GIMLabs.

Day one: configuration

Go customers start with a standard configuration based on AGS 4 and UK standards. You can be logging within minutes. Pro customers get a configuration call where we set up your tables, fields, collections, and templates to match how your team already works.

Day two: first project

Create a project in Manage, add your locations, and install the Log app on your phone or tablet. The app downloads your configuration automatically. Walk up to a borehole, open the app, pick the location, and start logging. Data syncs to the cloud as soon as you have signal.

Day three: office review

Back in the office, open Manage and your field data is already there. Review it in the table editor, run the validator to catch any issues, and preview PDF logs. No re-keying, no file transfers, no waiting for someone to email a spreadsheet.

End of week: delivery

Export AGS files for submission, generate PDF logs for your report, or invite your client to Connect so they can browse the data themselves. The whole workflow - field to deliverable - runs through one platform.

The honest bit

Will everything be perfect on day one? Probably not. Your team will have questions, you’ll want to tweak fields, and the first PDF log might need adjusting. That’s normal. The difference is that changes are instant - update a field in Product OS and every device picks it up on the next sync. No reinstalls, no version conflicts.

Ground truth, finally.
